Strengthening Communication, Trust, and Resilience in a Mission-Driven Workplace

Client Snapshot

Indiana Youth Group (IYG) is a mission-driven nonprofit serving LGBTQ+ youth in Indiana. Their staff spans multiple generations and roles, united by a shared commitment to care-centered work in a high-stakes, emotionally demanding environment. As the organization continued to grow, leaders recognized a need to strengthen communication norms, navigate conflict more effectively, and support staff resilience amid constant change.

The Challenge

IYG’s leadership team sought support in addressing foundational workplace dynamics—how “professionalism” is defined across generations, how feedback flows between staff and managers, and how to navigate tension without sacrificing personal boundaries or psychological safety. Staff needed practical tools they could apply immediately, not just concepts to discuss.

Just as importantly, IYG wanted learning experiences that would stick: shared language, concrete frameworks, and tools staff would continue referencing long after the sessions ended.

The Partnership

“If you are looking for a leader who leads with compassion while prioritizing the needs of you and your organization above all else, Amy is your go-to. She takes the time to truly listen and thoughtfully collaborates with you to determine the type of training that best fits your unique context.”

— Joseph Myers, IYG

Lead at Any Level began working with IYG in 2024, supporting early conversations around workplace behavior, communication, and leadership expectations. Building on that foundation, the partnership expanded in 2025 into a two-part engagement designed to remain responsive to IYG’s evolving needs.

Across virtual and in-person formats, the work emphasized trauma-informed communication, real-world application, and inclusive facilitation that honored IYG’s values and the lived experiences of its team.

Scope of Work

The partnership with Indiana Youth Group unfolded in intentional phases, beginning with foundational work focused on strengthening shared understanding and communication norms, and evolving into deeper skill-building experiences for the full staff.

Early work centered on establishing common language around professionalism, boundaries, and expectations in a multi-generational workplace. Through facilitated conversations and targeted planning discussions, IYG leadership clarified priorities related to feedback, conflict navigation, and behavioral norms—laying the groundwork for more comprehensive learning experiences.

Building on that foundation, the engagement expanded into three complementary learning experiences designed to support staff across roles and working environments:

Onsite Training: Growing Together: Teamwork across Generations

This in-person session explored generational differences in language, perception, and communication norms. Participants were invited to explore these differences through small-group reflection and play. Takeaways included templates for setting clear expectations and boundaries; tips for professional email communication; and guidelines for effective meetings.

Virtual Workshop: Moving from Panic to Purpose
This interactive session helped participants understand and respond to change—both organizational and personal. Staff explored common reactions to uncertainty, identified productive versus unproductive behaviors, and created personalized action plans to navigate change with greater confidence and clarity.

Onsite Training: From Tension to Trust
This immersive, in-person session focused on communication and conflict in emotionally demanding work environments. Through a trauma-informed lens, participants examined how stress, past experiences, and bias influence workplace interactions. Practical frameworks were introduced to support giving and receiving feedback, setting boundaries, and rebuilding trust when tension arises.

Across all phases of the work, the emphasis remained consistent: shared language, practical tools staff could immediately apply, and learning experiences responsive to the organization’s evolving needs.

As organizational priorities shifted during the engagement, the scope and emphasis of the work were thoughtfully adjusted to ensure continued relevance and impact.

“Throughout the few months we worked together, my organization went through a few changes, which then caused a need to refocus our training objectives. Amy took those changes with ease and understanding, and went out of her way to ensure our trainings were responsive to the needs of our organization.”

Results & Impact

The impact was immediate and deeply felt.

Feedback from both the webinar and onsite training was overwhelmingly positive. Participants consistently described the sessions as engaging, relevant, and immediately applicable to their day-to-day work.

Participants reported increased confidence navigating difficult conversations, stronger shared language around communication and boundaries, and greater self-awareness around stress responses and interpersonal dynamics.

IYG leadership noted that success meant the learning extended beyond the session itself—sparking continued conversation, reflection, and application well after the events concluded.

“Amy is a phenomenal trainer, and she is the exemplar for compassionate, professional service… Her care, clarity, and commitment make the experience both supportive and effective. I would 100% work with Amy again any time!”
